i didn't draw his tattoos because a) i'm lazy, b) i have no time, or c) i already butchered the design on his shirt and things couldn't go up from there. you can choose whatever mix of reasons you like.

i think it looks better on paper, but not much can be done about that. =|

Proportionwise it's pretty good, except I think the guitare should be a tad bigger.

A realistic drawing should be made up of shades and highlights that emphasise the shape of the subject. You start by doing the lines then erace them or blend them with the shading as you go along. (Don't think I explained that quite well...:P) Like for instanse the strings in the guitare. In the refrence you used their clearly lighter than the guitare it self, but here they're darker becaus you just drew the lines of them.

you're right about the strings, but it's one thing to make them white in vector art and another entirely to do it on paper... and like i said, i'm lazy and have no time ^_~

more specifically, i made this for my portfolio which i have to submit in a week, and to draw light strings and frets over a dark base would have been tedious and taken forever... but on future projects i'll try and be more picky about it :D
