A perfect memory
It is said that in some cultures
all water has a memory,
always seeking the way home.
I no longer tend a garden
with my knees caught in the soil,
hands in Terracotta pots,
with my breezy straw hat on
in a bright tenacious sun.
And instead of gaining water
from a chatty spring nearby,
I'm reduced to jelly glasses
in the sink from where I wash,
rinsing moss from where it lies.
And the water from its sources
still can find me where I am,
in my own lone convalescence,
giving me and carrot tops
a chance, at least, at living.
